Bikes to Art

“Bikes to Art” is a celebration of human-powered artistic expression bundled into a family-friendly bike art festival and whimsical parade. I created this community art-focused event with Melissa Berman. Our first event took place May 2017. It was a cold rainy day, but we still had over a hundred participants. We invited our entire community, artists, and bike lovers to decorate their bikes in any way possible to participate. Many people showed up with elaborately designed bikes, and others decorated theirs at the event. We had tables of free materials available for decorating, and volunteers artists were on hand to help children and adults turn their ideas into reality. Free food and music were available after we road our mobile masterpieces around downtown Grinnell in a whimsical parade. The second annual "Bikes to Art" celebration is scheduled for May 19, 2018.
